Need two IDs

Nigella?

Joe Pye Weed? I thought it had died right after planting. If it's not JPW, it's a milkweed. Something's been munching at night.

OK, I'll take a shot ....

The first one looks like california poppy. Nigella foliage is much more "spiky".

The second *could* be Joe Pye, but not at all sure. Anyone else??

Okay, I did sow CA poppies. So I wonder what happened to my nigella? LOL.

Definitely California Poppies. Can't believe you have a bloom already popping up.

The next one is JPW.

Thanks Tiffy. These are both new to me. I need to get out there and pinch that JPW.

The poppies were sown and germinated in November last year. They spent the winter very tiny.

The second does look like Joe Pye Weed, which will be coming out of my garden this year to make room for the hollyhocks. My JPW is totally blah -- the blooms are almost grayish and add nothing but height to the garden. Are there versions that are actually pretty?
