Dollar store seeds are a great way to start with. As you get a feel of what works and what does not for you, move to those more expensive things to try.

Some folks have a knack at this, others pull hair out. I am a die hard veggie grower. And to try new veggies each year have to expand my seed collection.

I adore poppys and never grew one till winter sowing. Sucess was in my reach with them. The folks here will share some great tips on those seeds.

Walmart carries a nice variety of 10 cent packs and now 39 cent ones. Every so often they get a new stock in and a new one to try. Expand your horizon and flowers.

I have used DG veggies for years. While I was in Alaska, my daughter bought seeds in Missouri at DG and mailed them to me. Even with a bit of postage they were a good deal.
I always get Batchelor buttons and alyssum too. They do just fine for me.

Same here...good luck with dollar store seeds! My very first attempt with tomatoes was just that. I had more cherry tom's than I knew what to do with :D
I've also had good luck with beans, corn, cucumbers and several types of lettuce....the Butterhead was still viable a few years later and it germinated withing 5 days this year! Not to mention luck with different herbs and annual/perennial flowers like Alyssum, Cosmos and Sweet William. I did Collards 'Georgia Southern' this year with 100% germination :D
Ben Franklin dime stores are another great find for seeds.

I have yet to find the .10 packs at Walmart!!!! Cheapest I've seen them there are .89. It's not fair!!! I'm so far having luck w/ the DG seeds, well at least indoors. My only sprouts I had ws are yellow and brown now. But that's more than likely me than the seeds.

I buy seeds wherever I find them, and the cheaper, the better. For a beginner, I believe that is the best way to go. If you're worried, do a germination test to proove to yourself that they'll sprout. After all, this is all one big experiment, this gardening journey.
