I have grown them for years and have never deadheaded them. So, I can't answer that part of the question. They are true biennials for me, but so are my sweet williams. Lunaria re-seed here and the seed pods are very cool. Even if I harvest seed, the plant manages to re-seed. I make sure newbies get as much of this seed as I can produce.

Hi Vera...I love my lunaria. It is biennial and reseeds every year and has grown into a large stand of which some bloom every year. I leave the seed pods on also. I do let just about all of the seedlings grow to bloom and then once they all bloom, I remove any that I no longer want in that area. It is one of my easiest to care for plants. :-)

Yep. Same here. I leave all the flowers on, then one day in fall when they are dry, cut the tops off & sit at the picnic table & peel the paper-thin outer pod off of the paper-thin "money" part (both sides). Usually 4 or 5 seeds per pod. It's kind of theraputic!

Thanks :D How about the foliage...does that still hang around and look good after they finish blooming? Should I plan on hiding the foliage with something else?

I pull it out when it's done. Throw it on the lawn and let the mulching blade chop it up.

I leave my plants in the area I want them all year. I'm trying to remember what the foliage looks like all season, but I am just assuming it looks pretty good because I would pull it otherwise. It winters over and sometimes looks a little ratty just before it starts to grow fresh foliage in the spring, but wow, very quickly it takes off and looks great again.

I have mine in an area that is set aside for that and is a little wild. They are also in my perennial beds, but I would pull those if they were in my way, leaving the large stand to continue all season.

Do you know when they are supposed to drop their leaves? Some of my Lunaria plants blossomed and started making pods, but now they are wilting and the pods do not seem to be growing anymore.
