You collect the seed just as you would seed any basil plant.

Allow the seed heads to form and dry on the plant. Then harvest the dried seed heads. The seeds themselves are difficult to extract from each sheath but you can use a home made seed thrasher or you can leave the sheath as it is which is what I'd do.

The easiest way to keep your basil for next year would be to take cuttings of your current basil and root it in the fall in order to overwinter it indoors and maybe even harvest a few leaves over the winter. Then, when late spring arrives, acclimate it to the weather gradually and plant in the ground.

I'll try both. Saving seeds and cutting stems. Not sure if the cuttings is going to work because my house is kinda dark. The only spot that I can put plants in is west facing which only receive an hour or so afternoon sun each day.

An easy way to supplement light during the winter with with a grow light. They're very inexpensive. You should be able to find a boxed set of a plastic light fixture that clips and comes with a grow light (the size of a regular light bulb) for well under $15 and will last you for years to come. So it's very portable and flexible if you want to change locations. Check places like Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes, or other local garden centers.
