I don't want to dump the cup but it is showing no signs of life. Has anyone else germinated these or does anyone know if they take more than a year to germ.?
They would be so perfect for my soggy yard I hate to give up on them.
I hope someone answers this question because I am in the same boat. No signs of life whatever. I am wondering if I should put them in the fridge for a while. Nothing was happening in my prairie coneflower container, so I put it in the fridge (for about 4 weeks), brought it out 3 days ago and there are sprouts!! I guess it's worth a try.
Ligularia is one of those plants that have lots of nonviable seeds. They look like sticks and they will not produce a plant. Each ligularia will have only few seeds that will actually be viable/ they have fat middle/. Even commercial seeds not always reflect it. If you can still see seeds you can take one out and gently squeeze- good viable seed will be firm and fat in the middle. They do reseed albeit gently for me so they probably will benefit from cold period providing they viable.
I received some Desdemona in a trade. I sowed in Jan or Feb. and got three seedlings sometime in late March. The seedlings are not doing the greatest. I've read this could be hard to germinate, so I was surprised. The person who sent them must have been good at collecting the seeds.
Well poo. I suppose I could go looking for the seeds in the cup. I can't see any and don't remember what they looked like to tell if they were fat or not. I may just have to put this one on my most wanted list and keep trying. Thanks for the input everyone.
