A very generous mamber of this forum sent me some Ph. hetroclada seeds and I've taken a stab at germinating them using a combination of his techniques, techniques from this forum and stuff I had on hand. It looks like I'm having quick sucess!
I started with around 30 seeds for a test run. I wet a paper towel with seedling strength hydroponic solution (using futuregarden nutrients) and stuck them in the fridge for a week.
In a 14"x15"x26" (a big one) clear rubbermaid container I mixed more seedling strength nutrient solution with a block of coconut fiber and mixed that with an about equal amount of perlite.
On the 24th of Dec I added the seeds to the soil free mixture and placed it on a heat mat that I had other seedlings on. The container was sort of in the lighting zone of a window and a flourescent tube grow light that I had on the other seedings on the heat mat, so not in the dark. I kept the lid on the container and it has been a 100% humidity rainforest in there.
Today at least five of the seeds have started sprouting (could have happened earlier, I haven't been paying much attention to them)! 10 days is a lot sooner than I was hoping for.
