A bamboo observation

This is just something I noticed today. About a year ago myself and a friend dug some unknown bamboo from a field. some of this bamboo was about 40' tall.

I got a nice root ball with 3 culms, my friend took a little whip shoot. I took extra good "care" of my bamboo planting it and watering etc. My friend on the other hand just stuck his on the ground he didn't even dig a planting hole, Even worse this is land he does not live on and just ownes. He probobly visits the land once every 2 months.

I was out on his land today and his piece of bamboo has leaves and is obviously alive while mine looks as dead as a door nail.

My friend actually forgot about the bamboo I had to call him to let him know it was still alive.

I think I need to have my soil tested since I seem to have areas of my yard where nothing but grass seems to grow.
