Castillon problem?
Castillon "grove" is in its third year. Out of five starts with total of six culms, this year there are 35+ shoots. Even though we had to fight two hurricanes last summer/fall, we've been way behind on rain. This spring I started watering just prior to shooting. Over the past week the mature/old culms started leaning from the base and nodding from the top. Also, some of the bases have black areas on them. A couple culms have gotten that look in the past, then rotted through at the base.
Is this leaning/nodding behavior typical of Castillon? I think part of the nodding problem is that they have put on LOTS of new leaves at the top.
I'm really concerned about the leaning, though. I'm worried that the watering (that they weren't "used to"???) may be causing problems.
Any thoughts???
Thanks,
Dave
