Moving bamboo...

I have a small grove of what I think is Yellow Groove. It's about 4 years old, started with some dug plants. In the middle is a planting of Dwarf Variegated Bamboo, 3 years old from a trade clump. I'd like to keep the YG from shading, hiding or otherwise overshadowing the Dwarf, but this year, a rhizome with 3-4 new shoots has moved in front of it.

Can I dig out the offending rhizome, with it's shoots, and move it to a better location? Will the shoots survive? Will the rhizome survive and shoot in the future?

If it was me I would let the shoots come up and leaf out, then when they are somewhat established I would then cut down 2/3 of the culms and dig them up and move them to the other location.

Letting them come up and leaf out will give them a better chance at survival when you move them. Cutting the culms back before you move them will put less stress on the plant.

Pura Vida..thanks, that's what I'll do. I think I'll have to dig a second trench, within the main trench, to keep the YG out of the White Stripe's area.

BTW...nice blog. Some amazing pictures.

Bambooo...it certainly is shooting season. Over 100 new shoots this year, in a ~80sf bed. A couple of them are the largest yet, nearly an inch in diameter.
