I have dulcis, but I am in 8a,, check my site for my growth under boo section, I think mine is done shooting for the year and as always half the new shoots aborted as usual.. same for my ph a.a.f. They also stained my back fence though this past month or so and it killed anything near it including alot of my boo and new shoots.. havent been real happy with that but my back fence is technically HOA property, lost all my chinese wisteria to the staining...

But regards to losing leaves. It should be losing the leaves in spring, but it should have buds on the culms expanding into new leaves.

It should be shedding old, spent leaves only, not "the" leaves as in going bare. Either your plant is so unhappy, due to some problem with the planting site or aftercare (cultural regime) that it can't make new growth or you got a division that was too small, that is cut between buds on the original rootstock, so that it came with no way to make new growth and was doomed to peter out when the culms it already had aged enough.

Bamboos generally are built for rich living, if a site has a problem with drought or infertility they will not make large, attractive specimens. New culms abort here mostly from our dry summers, I believe (I should go out and water my moso).
