You know what? I think your right Usa. I will have to go back and look at the leaves, to make sure they look the same as I'm seeing on this plant in a google search. I don't remember them being so shiney and dark. Is this easy to start from seed? If so I'll snag some seed pods next time I'm over there. There were no seed pods yet when we were walking by the other day.

Doesn't sound like my trumpet vine? The flowers are only about 2 inches. I was @ Ceasars Palace this weekend and they had Orange trumpet vine growing up the columns @ the pool, same thing 2 inch flowers. Whatever you saw...I want one :) Go take a pic please!

I have a trumpet vine called Madame Galan. The flowers are orangish red like you describe and quite large like you describe. It is a decidious vine and blooms like crazy in spring/summer even in the 110 weather. I like mine a lot, the only drawback, it does send some suckers out.

Yep, that is it. It appears some species of this Trumpet Vine do have larger flowers than others. Does anyone know if the plant is true to seed? Remember, I promised I'm not buying no more plants this year. I'm gonna have to go the seed route on this one ;)

You have a Yorkie too GT? I didn't know that? They are fun aren't they. Meggie is my little angel. I don't know what I would do without her. Chip on the other hand things his daddy loves Megan WAY too much, and should only pay attention to him...laugh! I love em both!

Here is my Trumpet vine this a.m. It was about 2ft high when I planted it 2 yrs ago! It is on the left, my Wisteria is on the right. I built the Pergola so the vines could grow over it and shade that 1/2 of the patio. The Trumpet vine has covered about 3/4's The Wisteria is growing VERY slow :(

I was reading on one site, that you shouldn't plant trumpet vine on building structures because it excretes a cement type resin, which once dry makes it impossible to get it off the building. Are you worried about that? Also, does it have any fragrance?

No fragrance :( And no secretions? I will keep it trimmed back from the house. Only on the Pergola. I harvested a long seed pod this Spring, want some seeds? Mine is Purple :)

A neighbor has an (common) orange variety growing over her wall. It's pretty. I've read that these are easily rooted from cuttings.

Alan, this plant is going crazy at my house right now. Mine is the orangey-red variety and I have more seeds than I can count. Let me know if you'd like some. Sam can tell you, though, they are not easy to sprout. If you'd like a plant, I can probably find one I can dig up for you. Or two or three. ;O)

My mom has the purple one, and she always said it was a trumpet vine and I thought she was wrong, but now that I see yours I am going to have to eat crow on this one. I love this vine, do you grow the purple trumpet vine in the shade or sun. my mom grows her's in half sun half shade.
Where did you get yours my mom picked her's up at Home Depot but it has been some years now since she purchased hers, I want one. I need some color in my garden in the summer, it is so plain right now, I guess I should ask does yours bloom in the summer, I can't remember if my moms does or not. I see the orange ones quite a bit at at Home Depot but I have never seen the purple ones.

I got mine @ H.D. in the Spring. I don't get flowers in the summer :( It starts to flower in late summer/early fall. Mine is in full sun.

Thanks for breaking it down. I actually just shows one of the members the page as it is now (on his mobile) and he said it looks great. I don't see any issues on my phone either, does it not look okay to you?

The only issue is that when I flip my phone from portait to landscape the social icons are too far up the page in landscape.
