What to do with bamboo

Hi,

We just went to a wedding a few days ago and one of the favors they gave was a small cylinder glass vase with polished stones in it and a bamboo in it. The contain had water in it too. I have no idea what to do with it, if you plant it outside or what. Can anyone guide me as to what to do. I did a search on the web but it all seemed so confusing. Thanks.
