Basjoos are big, 15-20 feet I think. Not edible. Cold hardy. Good deal.

I found seeds of musa basjoo for $4 of which only two seeds sprouted. Still, the hassle of germinating seeds, waiting months to get decent size plants etc. makes the price of buying live plants for $4 very attractive. I wish it were easier to import live plants into Canada as there are fewer nurseries that carry such plants. One of them had musa basjoo for $14.

So, even if your $4 plants are small, they will grow quickly. I am amazed at the growth rate of my plant, from 8 inches high at the end of May to currently 3 feet high, but each new leaf seems to be bigger than the last. I will definitely try to overwinter this one (indoors here of course).

If they are small and i'm sure they are do not plant them in full sun it will kill them.
