Just depends on what you want. If you'll be happy with a 'shrub', keep it. Be advised that it might die off again in the next frost/freeze.

The orchid tree was never going to be a big tree, but the ones you mention will be big. Very big.

I'd replace it. I don't think most orchid trees (Bauhinia) look super happy in most of the valley most of the time. Yes, there are rare exceptions, or plants that look decent for part of the year, but most plants don't look happy (to me) most of the time, plus like tomato said, if we get another bad winter your plant will get zorched again. I wouldn't want to deal with it, LOL. Let us know what you do and how it works out. It's your garden so it's your preference, but we'd love to be updated as it's fun to hear who is growing what.

So I decided to remove the Hong Kong and I planted the Vitex Tree in it's place. I feel overall it would be happier there and provide some privacy there along the wall in between the neighbor's yard.

I decided not to put the Vitex Tree near the house in my previous post. I was thinking of planting a Bauhinina lunarioides (Chihuahuan Orchid Tree)

Fun update, Joey, thanks for posting it! Let us know how everything works out. A vitex in this spot sounds great. B. lunarioides is the only orchid tree in my opinion that EVER looks truly happy here, LOL, keep the updates coming, it's fun to see/hear what you're doing. Happy gardening!
