I think though, as the plant gets taller, it's capable of producing longer/somewhat wider leaves. A one foot high musa basjoo won't have as long or wide of a leaf as a 10 foot high plant and probably a 15 foot high one might have even bigger leaves (if they get that tall).

Having said that, however, it would be interesting to hear which variety of banana is capable of producing the largest leaves. I have ensete 'maurelii' and the leaves do seem shorter and more upright than musa basjoo of the same height.

At the top of my head, I would say for the width, my Dwarf Red Jamaican seems to be producing the widest leaves among my 20-30 varieties. The broadest measuring point on a mature leaf comes up to 22 inches. The longest leaves go to my Praying Hands which is at the moment the tallest at 16-18 ft. I'm guessing the leaf length is between 8-10ft as they're all the way up. My Saba is supposed to get huge, but at the moment it's about 14-15 ft in height, but I would expect its leaves to get larger as it grows taller. It would be interesting to hear what others might come up with.
