Ailing Bory ?
About 6 weeks ago I purchased 4 x 2 gal Borys which I intended planting in a raised bed I am having constructed. There have been delays with this construction and the upshot is that these plants will not be in the ground before mid October. I do not think that this is a big problem as we have relatively mild Winters and almost no penetration of frost into the ground.
These plants were root bound so in anticipation of a delay in planting I potted them on into larger pots in order to allow some developement.
On reflection I would say that these plants were not in the best of health when purchased as there were some old culms that were dead and many of the leaves were yellow.
In the interim we have had some very strong Northerly winds and these plants have taken a blasting and a certain amount of defoliation (particularly younger growth) has taken place.Once a culm has been stripped of it's upper leaves would they ordinarily replace themselves?
I had a close look at these Borys yesterday and have pruned some additional dead culms .
Growth on this season's culms seems okay but the general appearance of these plants could be described as a bit sparse.
Is it quite natural for the older growth to die off whist the root system pours it's energy into supporting the new growth or do I have a problem on my hands?
Additionally I have 2 Bissetti which I bought 2 weeks ago. When they arrived they were in perfect condition but now are showing some yellowing leaves. Is this due to the fact that they are now exposed whereas previously they had been undercover at the nursery and this is part of the adjustment process?
