I plan to do the same thing this year. Last year I put some P. rubromarginata in some pots and put them in a south window and they did fine.

Without direct sun I assume they would grow okay, but just not as well.

"one of these days" I'm going to try bamboo inside, but not a runner, rather a clumper, like Bambusa vulgaris 'vittata', or Bambusa lako. A 25-gal container, 24" diam, 20" deep, should support it quite well. it would have to be toppped, and I'd trim all the lower branches to expose the culms, yellow with green stripes, or black/chocolate.

Do you want to grow it indoors for a houseplant? I ask because I have overwintered quite a few phyllostachys in the garage that were purchased too late in the season to plant that same year.
If you want to grow it indoors as a houseplant, then you need bright light, humidity, and monitor the moisture keenly. Too much moisture in the soil will do it in quickly.
On the other hand if you are just trying to overwinter a potted bamboo, then place it in a spot where it will get bright light and where the temperature is cool. Water sparingly. My garage never dips below 25F even on the coldest nights so it works just fine to overwinter potted temperate bamboo.
