I'm not an expert but I grow some bananas in zone 8. It's all depend on what banana you are growing. If it's basjoo and maybe a few cold hardy ones, I think you could cut it down and mulch it. Next spring it will come back and grow fast. For most other bananas, you definitely have to overwinterize them one way or the other.

Thanks for the reply. The main stalk has approximately 4-5 pups coming off of it. The main tree is about 4 feet tall with the pups a little smaller. Should I leave the pups and stalk together when adding to a pot for the winter. I intend to bring the entire tree inside for the winter.
