I've heard many people claim that this banana is quite hardy for them but I've never been able to get one through the winter. My winters are quite wet and the plants have just rotted.

If your winters aren't too harsh you could probably just cover them with a good layer of mulch. If you are expecting real cold many people make a cage around the trimmed stem/trunk and fill it with straw or leaves. Some even cover the cage with a tarp.

Or you can dig up the corm and store in the basement. Think potato storage conditions. Seems to work for me.

I would play it safe and mulch it with about a foot of mulch followed by a tarp to keep moisture from coming in. The mulch has to be very dry, and hay would probably work too (and thats very plentyful in the center of the country or in more rural areas).

As far as I know these bananas are cold hardy to a zone 7b, but they arent very easy to find and are very nice so I wouldnt risk giving it the full effects of a zone 7 winter and I would protect it.
