Whats this mean?

I have one baby buddha that has lots of new growth. All look super healthy, lush green but I see 3 limbs with new leafs shooting out but they are brown... A friend told me that they abort occasionally. Any ideas? Should I pull the brown tubes out if they will come or will a new leaf force this brown one out?

Thanks again guys

Sorry No Popcorn!! lol

Do you mean 'limbs' or 'new shoots', with brown leaves? New shoots sometimes will abort. On a limb, if the leaves are brown, then that usually means that, that area of the plant is dead, and will not produce new growth. The new growth will come from a green area of the limb or culm.

This is from my experience only, and I am not sure if I understand the question correctly, so correct me if I'm wrong.

WHAT!?!? No popcorn?? That's OK...I still don't eat it...

Its 3 seperate limbs and each has 3-4 healthy leaves and the next in line starts to protrude out...they are brown. Just wondering why? Everything about the plant looks super healthy. I've had leaves come out and turn yellow fairly quick, but never like this. These leaves never even unfolded or unrolled...they look like brown needles.

Should I try to remove them? The look like they would slide out of the tubes they are set in.

    Thanks

I would leave them alone unless you are wanting enhance it's aesthetic value. If they are dead, they will fall out on their own.

I am assuming it is in a pot, which means that it may have gotten too much water, which in well drained soil may be no problem, but in heavy soil, from my experience with BB, can cause leaves and also new culms, to die off before maturing.

Kt, but if it we're a water issue... why only 3 limbs? There are 30-40 easily. How will it fall off if it looks like its stuck inside? Will the next leaf force this one out? Or is that limb most likely to die now? the existing 4-5 leaves on that same limb look great. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what those few decide to do.
    Thanks

I'd like to see a close-up picture of it. That is strange that only a few show those signs. If it is only three out of that many, then I say go ahead and pull them out, IF, they are not too well attached.

I never look at mine that closely, I may have some with the same symptoms. I'll have to check and get back with you.

So wierd!!! I was able to get 2 fingertips on the end of one of the leave tips poking out and gently pulled... is slid out fairly easy. 2 of them would not budge. I took a few pics...I'll post them later today...I'm running out the door now.

I'll take a full pic of the plant and attach the close ups of the brown needle leafs protruding out.

Yea, lol... guess I do pay a little too much attention to them... I admit it...I'm not in denial ... I blame it on my "Newbie" status :-D

    Thanks for the info Kt

Anybody else have any ideas? Wonder if a new, green leaf will push the brown one out? Or if a new leaf will replace where I pulled the brown needle leaf out.

CJ. I saw that a few times with my moso seedlings (over a year old) this summer. From my experience and from what I could tell, it was from letting them dry out just a bit too much. The newest leaves are very fragile and the cell structure is not established so when the water runs low, those are the first to die. Just my theory. Take it for what it's worth. I too waited for new growth, and always got it. Sometimes the dried up leaf kept the new one from growing straight out, but only temporarily. I like to pull them off anyway if they are in the way as long as it falls off easily. If it tugs at all, I figure the cells are still attached and doing something so I leave it. Good luck!
