Sweet Shoot

Yesterday I saw a grove of Dulcis, "Sweet Shoot" which was knockout. The grove is owned by a commercial grower, and I don't mind paying to get some of it. The problem is, this grower has runaway mites on all his plants, and the Sweet Shoot is very mature (planted in March of 97), culms 'about' 2 and a half inch diameter. As an aside, I wonder how people actually measure diameter accurately? Is there a tool? Anyway, I couldn't get my long finger around it to touch my thumb). To continue: How to handle this? Pay for a full grown field division, bring it home and have it sprayed? Or cut it down to only a few branches, bring it home and then spray it?
