Have bananas growing, now what?

It's getting colder here in Houston, are my bananas going to make it? Also, I bought 3 breeds Williams, Ice Cream, and one from India but don't know which one this is, can anyone help me identify? Any trick to keeping these alive, I've already managed to have my first two bunches kill their stalk, but this time I learned I was supposed to cut the flower off when the bananas start growing. These seem to still be alive - i'm just watering 10 minutes every morning and that's all so far.

what do you mean by kill the stalk? Once any banana flowers it will kill the main p stem. no way around it. It should have produced pups by this time. cut down the dead P stem and let the pups grow. the bunch off the first pup will be larger than the parents first bunch and so on.

Mikes right on the money!

Your not supposed to cut the flower off, it's an option, not a rule!
Leave it on, you get more fruit, cut it off and the fruit you have will be larger.

If the question is what to do with the bunch with on-coming cold weather, leave 'em be for as long as possible. I had to cut my big bunch of Orinocos last year in mid-November when a frost threatened. The fruit was still as hard as railroad spikes.

Put 'em in a bag with a couple of apples and left it in the greenhouse. Surprisingly, they ripened up about 45 days later.
