Pleioblastus simonii variegatus has multiple leaf forms. It has a mix of normal, long, wild-type simonii leaves and a shorter leaf form that is only found on this variegated cultivar. Suspect this leaf variation is a result of a slight growth incompatibility between the two genotypes making up this chimaeral cultivar.

Nice shot into the sky. It shows off the different leaf forms real well.

As for compound leaves... I don't think any bamboo has those, tho they tend to look that way because of the way the leaves cluster on the branches.
