Hi,

I live in NJ and have a few areas in my yard where bees are living in old mole / vole holes. The bees are constantly flying in and out of the holes and looks like they are headed into the woods that surround the house. There is no evidence that they excavated any dirt. It look like they simply took over the tunnels. The bees do not look like your typical yellow jacket. They look more similar in size to honey bees but I don't think they are honey bees. I have been out after sunset when I could barely see the hole and the activity does not seem to slow down.

I have sprayed Ortho's wasp killer in the hole which actually expands into a white foam. The bees returning to the nest swarm over the foam and I guess when the foam disapates they re-enter the hole and activity starts up again so this is not effective.

I have read that if you put the nozzle of the shop vac near the hole you can suck up the workers exiting and entering the hole.

My questions are what type of bees could this be in NJ assuming they are not yellow jackets or honey bees and any other suggestions for DIY elimination?
