I've never dug up as large of divisions as you have but I think you will get a lot of leaves drying up and eventually falling off. I think it's the bamboo's way of compensating for root loss. Also this time of year is probably more difficult than in early spring to make the divisions. You may need to cut more off but the plant will also drop leaves as necessary. Unfortunately your divisions may wind up looking pretty rough until spring.

its just styrange to me that its only happening to one branch at a time. I assumed I may have to top the culms to get them through to spring I was jsut being hopeful that they would make it full size.
