I think it is elegant the way it is---it has enough texture to make it interesting. If you were to change one or two cushions for soft aqua cushions --that looks great with taupe. Then you can always change again later.

Fushia, deep plum, and yellow all go great. As well as turquoise or light blue. I have a similar color scheme with grey/blue walls and neutrals with pops of blue and purple. I LOVE the bedding by the way. Where did you purchase it?

If you truly want to add another color agree with the above...Yellow is really in and looks lovely paired with gray. I found the first picture online to show the yellow accents and the picture of the throw pillows came from Neiman Marcus's website.

What color will you have in your master bath? I would take your cue from the master bath to add color accents to your master bedroom. Gorgeous bedding! It's entirely your choice, but I would love lavender or bright pink, maybe not quite as bold as fuschia.

I would enjoy the beautiful subtleties offered by your new bedding...until I got bored with it. And then I would swap out a pillow or two for something in a bright color that makes you happy.

Hi justjaney is this your bedroom or is this the marketing picture for the bedding? If this is your room then kudos as it is gorgeous, if not then take your cue and see what makes this work so well. It's the layering of colour and texture, it's adding the crystal and the correct lampshades. Truly this works as it is. What do you have in your room if this is not it? Tell us what you are working with as well as the bedding.

Eggplant purple would keep it elegant and knock out the monotone going on....not that what you have going on in the room is bad, I actually love it alot!

If you purchased ensuite (as we see it), then I would not touch a hair on anything. I love monochromatic with great texture and visual interest...which is what you have. This is a very chic look. It needs nothing added to the mix.

It may not take much to liven it up a little. The bedwall painted in an accent color (eggplant?) with a side chair, pillows and rug to bring in that color to the room could be enough; some artwork and the lampshades can also bring in color that you love. Enjoy

I love the monochromatic look. If I felt like it needed more punch I would add layers of darker grays and browns. You get dimension and keep the lovely restful feel.

With the mum design in the bedding, I would use a floral color - fushia, lavender, coral? Agree with above comment to marry the choice to the master bath colors if applicable. The bedding is fabulous… care to share the maker & purchase place?

This is by Liz Claiborne. I purchased this from JCPenney. I like the idea of adding just a couple accent pillows or throw in the "eggplant" color. My furniture is of solid oak in a light tone finish and I feel this bedding needs "Warmed Up" a bit.

Thanks for telling us the maker, it is beautiful. If you want to warm up the look, I agree with those above who suggested painting the wall behind the bed. If your oak furnishings are similar in color to the tan of the headboard and of the floor in the photo, I agree that it will need more contrast than is seen here. What is helping the room in the photo to look so great is contrast. It is the contrast of the white lamp shades against the curtains, the white mirror frame, the white night stands and the bright light of the windows and shiny reflection of the mirror. It also has textural contrast with the smooth curtains, glass lamps, smooth white painted night stands and textural bedding.

Think of contrast when you make your decisions, light to dark contrast, color contrast, textural contrast. Back painted glass on the surfaces of your night stands could add subtle color or be white, either will add contrast and tone down the oak.

There are lots of things you can do. Just be sure and think of the whole room, with the things you cannot change when you make your decisions. Use your oak color as the first color you must harmonize with, the bedding is extremely neutral. Good luck.

I thought that Interiors Unleashed's idea of black glass on your oak furniture was an interesting one if you really feel the need of tweaking the beautiful bedding you have. Or you could instead have mirrors cut by a local glass company for the tops of your nightstands to add a glamorous note to them. Then get glass lamps with white shades from Z Gallerie to go on the mirror topped nightstands.

I agree with Darla, I think Yellow would be a great accent color, and would brighten up the room.

I think Celery Green, Plum, or even Dark Teal would look beautiful

Hi. I have a master bedroom with half the room in taupe walls and the other half in decorator white. The trim is done with some in that same white and some in a lighter taupe. I have mostly taupe and cream furniture. I love taupe and recently decided to change the bedroom a bit by adding another color. My two favorite colors are green and violet. I decided this time around to add a smokey plum to the taupe (which is the color of this set). A pretty plum would break up the "neutralness" if you will of this taupe and give it a bit of color. All I did was add toss pillows, (some from Marshalls and some from a site called West Elm) I also added faux fur throws in plum. I then added a few smokey plum florals to flower arrangements and just by adding the plum, it changed the look of the entire room. By doing it this way, I can always pull the plum at any time and go back to the neutrals of just taupes and white, or add another color and change the whole look again. when I can, I buy pillow covers instead of an entire toss pillow. Or, I go grab fabric on sale and make quick pillow covers myself. You dont have to be a super sewer to do it. another great color to add to taupe is a yarrow gold (kinda a dark mustard color)
Whenever adding another color? Use that new color at least three times in the room. Just dont over do it.
