I have two here in Camp Verde and they do well. Comice and an Asian.
I have run across some thing similar with this one area in our yard. No matter what kind of fruit tree we planted in a particular spot it would die. We thought maybe there was this huge rock down there the size of a VW. So we finally gave up and don't plant things in that spot. Pears do, do well here.

I know of no reason your pear trees would not be a success. Did you examine the roots when dug out?

What rootstock? Try a different one OXhF333, OHXF-97, Betulaefolia.

Betulaefolia
Excellent anchorage, extremely vigorous. Very adaptable to a wide range of soil types. Susceptible to lime induced chlorosis. Good compatibility with most pear varieties. A good rootstock for Asian Pears.

Calleryana
For flowering pears and Asian pears. Preferred rootstock for warm winter/hot summer climates and for sandy soils. Also adapted to wet soils. Asian pear varieties slightly dwarfed, bear heavily at young age.

OHXF-87
Semi-vigorous. Considered a semi-dwarf tree. Tolerant to blight and decline.

OHXF-97
Good anchorage & vigor. Induced early heavy production. Resistant to pear decline and fireblight. It is a superior rootstock for vigorous pear trees. Hardy and resilient to cold.

Provence Quince BA 29C
Good anchorage & vigor. Induced early heavy production. Resistant to pear decline and fireblight. It is a superior rootstock for vigorous pear trees. Hardy and resilient to cold.

Winter Nelis
Excellent anchorage & vigor. Does well in most soil types. Moderate growth in dry, shallow soils. Uniform growth characteristics. Not a good rootstock for all but the most vigorous Asian Pears. (tasty very late pear too, if not a seedling)
