Summer watering is done as of about now, time to go with the spring-autumn regimen, figure around Dec 1 for winter. Last winter, I may have watered once or twice in Dec, than not again until early March.

Ugh! How does spring-autumn differ from summer? I/2 as much or less? I am really tired of being the slow learner here.

Spring and autumn are our active growth seasons. For many of our plants, summer and winter are both periods of struggling to survive. Always water the same amount, vary the frequency. And lessen the frequency now, as compared to summer. It is critically important that water-wise plants not be watered until soil is completely dry, and that will take longer now than it did in June.

Follow GermanStar's advice as it is correct. I don't think anyone minds your questions. Many of us came from other parts of the country and had to learn too. At least you care enough about your yard to ask questions.

My experience has been that plants adapt to a watering schedule. By that I mean as long as you do not stress them unduly they adapt to whatever intervals you find works for watering these non-native plants. I have a very basic guideline for watering the majority of our edible plants (not trees), by temperature range.

Irregular watering, particularly with tomatoes can cause fruit slit.

This is for established gardens, not seedlings and is a guide, not a bible. I actually just moved some of our gardens to every 5 days from 4, and am monitoring them.

70s water every 5-6 days
80s water every 4-5 days
90s water every 3-4 days
100s water every 2-3 days
