    Welcome, Marlon!

Can you tell us what conditions you are growing your bulb in? Indoors or out, how are you fertilizing, etc.?

I can't speak specifically to your bulb without knowing more, but some bulbs are just slower than others, and for a variety of reasons, may not produce a scape every year. I purchased an 'Amputo' earlier this year, and it just sat there for three months before growing it's first leaf. Still haven't seen a bloom yet.

Im growing it indoors and i have been thinking to putit outside because i live here in tx and theres been a heatwave do you think its a good idea to put it outside i mean it reached 105 a week ago and yesterday 103

I have quite a few outside, and I'm in Phoenix where we recently reached 113. However, mine have been outside for a long time, and are acclimated much better. I have some in pots and some in the ground. They're all doing fine.

I would suggest finding a shady place to put the pot and slowly introduce it to morning sun, if you decide to put it outside.

Welcome to the forum, Marlon. In regards to your cybister, I do have a few questions: Is this a previously bought bulb that is due to re-bloom or is this a newly bought bulb? The best thing you can possibly do for the bulb is to water it sporadically (allowing the soil to dry in-between waters and making certain you do not get water within the neck-center of the bulb) and to provide as much bottom-heat possible. I would definitely put the bulb outside, and as Ryan said, slowly acclimate it to your blazing weather. Cybisters are native to tropical areas so I'm sure your 'Night Star' will appreciate the warm weather. Do you have a picture of your bulb? You said it was growing slow; any leaves? tips of a scape?

Hi Marlon, welcome from me too (though I'm kind of a newbie myself). I'm having this same problem with my Chico. I've had it since Feb and it's really sloooow growing. I put it outside for a bit and the leaves started to burn then brown so it really looks sad now. Sorry I can't be of more help, but I'm glad to hear about folks' suggestions so that I can use them too! Alana

is it bad if the flower bud is trieng to open when its that short an inch the flowerbud is splitting

i grow my amaryllis outdoors in flowerbeds that receive overhead irrigation. they were outdoors before the heat wave hit, so were all ready accustomed to outdoors. most of mine receive about a half day of sun mostly early in the day.

Marlon, if the flower is blooming on a short scape that means it is a stressed bulb. I think you said you received this later in the season (the month of May, I believe?) and therefore, the bulbs have been stored in cold storage for longer periods of time. I would enjoy the flowers on their short scapes this year, and focus heavily on allowing the bulb to bulk up on producing as many leaves and roots as possible. Do try to fertilize during the growing season (now) and just focus on getting the bulb to replenish it's energy for better flowers next year. Let us know if you have any further questions. :)
