That's good stuff, fungus and bacteria

I get the stuff in my large wood chips under the big tree. It does'nt seem to bother a thing. First time I got it, I took the rake and turned the wood chips over it died w/n days. I also think it is the good stuff. You will find a lot of it in the forest of N. California.

It's a fungus eating your woody mulch, breaking it down and making it into compost. I think it only eats dead wood, so your living plant should be safe. It's an indicator of fairly high moisture, but I think hibiscus likes moisture, right? So you should be good. I suspect you can thank our very moist monsoon season for this. Was yours as moist as Marana's?

Thanks for the reassurance. I actually found more in one of my raised beds this morning. Just getting back into gardening after being gone for a few years. Glad I found this forum. I had success my first year in the house back in 95 but slowly got too busy to give the time and TLC needed. I'm going to give it a try again and will probably be asking more questions as I go. And yes here in Chandler we have had more rain then normal!
