Awwwwwww! Ain't they cu-ute? I recognize some of them I think, 'Benigo' and the fancy one with the sinus curl that looks so much like 'Denver Lace' on the far left, U002's just to the right of it? Then about two thirds of the way across, near the bottom, the silvery colored cane looks like 'Two Face'. I could be wrong about that one. I wish I could remember the name of the peltate one, do you have a tag?

I want to say "thank you Elizabeth", you've been so much help with learning the terminology. :~)

margaret, the peltate one in the lower left corner is conchifolia var. rubrimacula ("bullseye"). it was one of the first begonias i ever bought. :) hey alicia, can you give us a run down of what's in the tank? i'm curious about the small ones near the top of the pic!

Ok, a brief rundown. I am so bummed, I tucked some of these in the tank with there ID's written on the paper that they came with, thinking I would be back within a day or two to make tags. Sigh,,,best laid plans of mice and men. Actually though this post forced me to salvedge the ones that I could (tags)and make real tags.

Starting lower left corner going across the tank to the other side -
B. conchifolia 'Bull's Eye'
B. 'Denver Lace'
B. 'Benigo'
B. noid for now, it is from the flower show last summer, which I have the tags (with pics)on so once it is large enough I can ID it. I just could not throw away the large lovely leaves that broke off during the installation.
Middle of the tank-
B. U002 (in flower! lol)
rooted leaves of 'Strawberry cream'
Two different Begonias from Jen that I cannot make out the name on the tag :o(, Jen I am going to have touch base with you on that one.
B. 'Two Face'
B. manicata aureo maculata (center rooted leaves)

Love your aquarium. Great pictures as well.

I have been using an old 60 gallon aquarium leftover from my daughter when she tried saltwater for seahorses.

Just had to wait until the plants got big enough to post some pix, plus clean out a lot of the dead leaves.

I found a novel way of propagating using the aquarium. I had poor results by sticking leaves directly in the medium in the center of the tank. They usually dried up and died. The corners of the tank worked well as you can see by the pictures. So I got some cuttings to root in Jiffy peat pellets first. Then I stuck these half way in the medium of the aquarium and most did very good. I have horticultural charcoal on the bottom, then a generous layer of perlite, then some Peter's pro mix.

I was down to one leaf of my 'Chivalry' because all the others curled up and died. Thank goodness this one took off like a rocket. It is in a Jiffy peat pellet as well as 'Marmaduke' and 'Cowardly Lion'. They are all doing great.

I also have several rexes and small rhizos in solo cups so they won't be lost among the bigger plants.

Hcmcdole, yep these aquariums make great homes for starting plants. I keep two going at all times and just stick cuttings as I acquire them. I have a singe 18" fourescent light fixture on a timer on top of the glass cover.

I have this particular aquarium in the dining room, I keep planning to move it out to the greenhouse but have not gotten to it yet (a year later, lol). I really like to poke my nose in there in the evenings just to see what is taking off. My guest always crack jokes about my "Science projects", lol.

You have a pretty interesting collection of "babies" yourself. What is the name of the Begonia with the dark leaves and speckles in the upper right hand corner? I really like that one.

Alicia- I thought I posted on this thread a long time ago. I must have gotten interrupted and not gotten back to it. I'm not sure which ones from me are ID questions, but right around U002 and 'Two-face' there might be a start of Tiny Gem. I think I sent that one. Is the other noid the little cane that's by the Hoya? If that one's from me, it might be 'Lois Burks'. (I should check the spelling on that.)

Thank you Jen! Indeed those are names that I was looking for. I set the pieces of paper that you have put with each of the begonias by each start, intending to come back the next day and make tags, ha! fat chance, lol... by the time I came back with tags and a pencil the paper had deteriorated and become "one" with the rooting mix. So you have confirmed what those few still readable letters mean, lol.

Nice pictures of aquarium propagation! Hcmcdole, do you know the name of the begonia in the lower right corner of the second picture? The one with the kiwi colors, speckled bright green and brown.

The begonia in question is 'Marmaduke'. I thought I was about to lose it so I started this for insurance. The mother plant is now showing a lot of new leaves as well.
