To answer your question about pot size, it should be about 3" bigger than the diameter of the bulb would make it about 1 to 1 1/2 around the entire bulb.

That said, I'd like to ask you about your Seductress! Last year, I bought 3 bulbs from Easy to Grow Bulbs, one of which was Seductress. All three bulbs came quickly and were very good quality. The bulb labeled as Seductress was an entirely different bulb. Mine didn't bloom last year but, this year it has grown many healthy leaves and I know it will bloom this year. Another girl from this forum bought the same bulb from the same vendor and she posted a picture of hers on this forum. I have pictures of the bulb, but I got them from Emaryllis' site and hesitate to post them. You can go to his site and see that he got the same bulb as the girl on this forum, and it's a Grandeur cross, very pretty, but not the bulb pictured on the EGB website. Take a look at the pictures emaryllis.com - Photo Library (Hybrids) and see for yourself. You may want to ask them if this year they have the correct bulb which they may have already corrected for this year as I'm sure they had many complaints. Since mine didn't bloom, I will have to enjoy what I got, but after seeing the photos on Emaryllis' site I'm sure I will. Take a look and see what you think. Why didn't your's bloom last year? I thought they bloom about a month or two after planting indoors? I know the ones I always get at Lowes (Apple blossum, Red Lion, etc.) bloom every time about a month or so later. Are they treated differently? I don't want one that won't bloom for me this xmas!

Donna, don't you think that would be a bit too little for such big bulbs? They really like big pots. Cathy, if I where you, I'd choose a rectangular pot where both of them have as much space to each other and the pot's exterior as they are their diameter is across.
That way they have lots of substrate volume, lots of space for their roots and they don't have to be repotted so soon. But if they are in such a big pot you have to make sure not to overwater.

Hi, Cathy and Carl, Actually, I wasn't thinking both bulbs in one pot, I should have been since that is what you said. I always use clay, so finding a rectangular (which would look the best with two bulbs) that doesn't weigh a ton would be difficult. Plastic would be another thing.....I very seldom if ever, use plastic. The clay pots I use are called rose pots which are substantially deeper than regular pots, which do allow ample room for root growth. Bigger is always better, but when you have close to 100 bulbs, the size of the pots becomes an issue, for me anyway. So Cathy, if you only have a few bulbs then go for the biggest pot you can find that you can handle and lift when wet and full of bulbs and soil! I am able to leave them in their pots for 2 years maybe three before re-potting.

As for my Seductress not blooming, that does occur occasionally when buying bulbs, that were stressed somehow along their journey to the vendor and to us. I went a little overboard last year and must have purchased over 35 bulbs from here and there and everywhere and I had at least 5 that sat and sat and after many months decided to put up leaves, and no blooms.(Seductress was one) These were all good sized bulbs and after this summers vacation outside in hot sun with lots of food, they all look good and I know I will have some surprises waiting for me. Don't assume that will happen to you, it probably won't.....but you may still get a surprise as to the variety! Did you check out Emarillis' website yet?

Especially if you have such an amount of bulbs, I'd say ditch the clay and go for plastic! But of course I know I can't and shouldn't convince you ...

"I like big pots and I can not lie.." I'm horrid at repotting things so I tend to put stuff in much bigger pots than most people. Eventually the plants grow to fit the pot, it cuts down on my watering and gives the plants a better chance of survival in the summer. But boy, do they suck if you have to move them indoors.
I'm not big on plastic pots, they tend to crack, splinter and do just like the above picture, the sides bulge out. Sometimes it's the only option though.

If I'm not mistaken, they were the only ones to offer this last year, of course this year may be different once everyone gets a look at it, just gorgeous! If I remember correctly, there were 4-6 flowers on each of two stalks !!

That Siren is just gorgeous! I may have to up my order for that one lol!

Last year I did Apple blossum and while they were lovely and bloomed their heads off, I didn't find AB particularly attractive. Rather plain, so I thought I would try something bolder.

I was given this as a Christmas gift. Is it an amaryllis?

I was told it is but it looks a little different from others.

It's hard to tell from your picture as it isn't really a close up of the leaves or the bulb but it does appear to be an amaryllis. Perhaps, as the leaves appear to be more narrow, it is a cybister of some type!
