Lotus Bog

I have been growing a huge lotus in containers, but find that the roots quickly saturate the container. I am hoping to create a bog for it around 4' deep and 4' x 4' round. I am hoping this bomb crater will be enough to keep the lotus happy. Will stagnant water be an issue at the bottom? Also, what happens when the roots completely fill the bog? Any better ideas?

no, stagnant water is not an issue at the bottom. It will take a long time for the roots to completely fill the bog. When and if they do, just remove some of the tubers and give them away.
