I'm also very interested in the proper way to keep this rose trimmed. My husband purchased one in Tombstone last yr. and I know it will need to be pruned but it would be nice to know the right way to keep it tidy. Ours is also the white one.

They are not tidy-growing roses. What I do is trim the canes that grow in the wrong direction, cut them off all the way back to the main stem. If you just lop off the ends they will re-sprout. You can also train them by tying the wayward canes back to the direction you want them to grow. These are not roses for small spaces. They need room, lots of it, to flourish and bloom. They don't do pretty when they're espaliered, they need to grow new growth to make the flowers for next year.

It is a LARGE rose bush, and if you let it grow, makes a large mound of shoots or scrambles all over the other bushes and arbors and trellises. And it trails down like a weeping willow.

It's can't be made tidy like tea roses.

Wait, can you still trim the lateral canes every year? What time of year do yo do that and how short do you trim them?
