getting anxious for my plants

As this is first spring with my arrowhead plant and lotus I'm wondering what is taking them so long to make an appearance in zone 7/8. No sign of emergence though weather has been warming and each plant was healthy going into winter. Are these late sleepers? Or perhaps, something more sinister (though neither could have froze)?

negative. I dug up the lotus to find it dead and rotting. I have already replaced it with an ebay starter. I was informed I drowned it when I placed it in bottom of pond for the winter. No sign of arrowhead either, so I replaced it with some wild stuff from the lake. And thanks for asking.
