hmm. someone posted awhile ago about this happening. i don't remember what they did, though! do you have a picture of this? sounds pretty neat. i think they let theirs get quite large before they posted on the site is all i can remember. i would try air layering.

I think this is what you are talking about:

ADVENTITIOUS PLANT - A young plant that develops in an asexual manner on the leaves or stems of the mother plant.

The piggyback plant is a very good example. There are many other plants that exhibit this as well. My first experience reading about this was on water lilies.

Some of my sinus curl plants do this as well. Wasn't sure at what point I could take off the little one, but I suppose when it gets a second leaf of its own I might try snipping and repotting.

It's just a tiny stub of what's starting out to be a stem so I'm leaving it until it has a leaf or two and hopefully starts making roots then I'll cut the leaf off and peg it down on top of a pot of soiless mix to see if it'll go ahead and root.
