Try it without holes first. If you like it, great! If you find it is too wet, or for some reason you don't like it, you can always get a long bit and drill holes into it. That is what I did with my former pond. So far, I see no reason to drill holes into the bottom. Plants love it. It is not too wet. Everything seems to be working well.

My bog has been in the ground since 1998, and moved when I moved! I've never found the need to put holes in the liner.

I have several small bogs that I have had in the ground for a couple of years. No holes, doing just fine.

I have 7 or 8 saururus cernuus that just appeared in one of my beds. Thought I might try a small container bog to put them in so they don't take over my bed. Would a plastic dish pan or something like that work? I hate to just rip the plants out and pitch them.

What is the deal with people wanting to have their water gardens drain?? That is so costly and plants dont mind the boggy conditions. That is what they are for. To be wet. Some more than others. That is why you have different submersible levels and bog levels.

you dont need any drain holes just have fun with your newly made water garden :)
