Scale trees

Wikipedia says ''scale trees'' (Lepidodendron)are extinct. Are there similar plants still extant similar enough that we could view and get some idea, other than fossils and drawings, what they might have looked like.


(Linguistic question for bonus points: is ''still extant'' redundant?)
