I fully expect DNA identification to be increasingly important. So, were it me, I would seek a strong minor in genetics.

My Boy, follow the advice of albert135 and add a hefty dose of plant biochemistry or physiology. Taxonomy has become a most complex field and unless one has a PhD in one of the advanced botanical subjects, the pay is pitiful and the work is quite boring. I might add that only a handful of schools prepare one for a career in plant taxonomy, physiology, or biochemistry. GOOD LUCK!!!

My advice would be this. A BS degree is bio will, in this day and time, not get you very far, the job market is to condensed, the applicant field is too saturated with Master and PHD's, so expect to at least get you masters. Biology is a good undergrad degree path, available at most colleges and universities. Plan on doing exceptionally well and keeping you GPA so you qualify for a top notch graduate program at a university.

The others are right, fill your brain full of genetics, molecular biology and systematic botany! Good Luck!!
