Last year I grew Rudbeckia Becky, the seeds were from valueseeds. The blossoms were yellow with the dark eye, very pretty. They looked like this

Some have orange-brown rings around the eye.

Wow! Those are as nice as the parent plants, if not nicer. Looks like there's som goloriosa daisy in their heritage.

Pretty!

Oh...those ARE nice!!

I've also been delighted with the Rudbeckias. I've had Prairie Sunshine and old fashioned ones that are "only" distinguished by flowers that are 5" wide! Astounding. And they don't seem to mind our current 100+ temps.

P.S. I'd love to have some seeds of those in picture #4. Wonder if they would look like that? GAWGIUS!

I have no idea what the offspring might look like, this year's crop certainly is varied.

I also have taller Prarie Sun and Irish Eyes nearby and my neighbor has regular tall BES on the other side of the fence. I expect next year's babies to be the same as this year- a little of this, a little of that...

A little of this and that sure makes for a pretty garden, Karen. Nice surprises you got there. Those zinnias are great too.

Love it. Ma nature has much better taste than I do and rearranges my color schemes all the time. Beautiful ruds!

Not everything looks so lush though, Carrie, I just don't take pics of the dead or dying stuff that has fried in this heat and drought. My lupines will be trashed as soon as I can get to them, probably fall, because I can't get them now because other things are so close. Also fried- Mexican Hats, one tomato plant, a few salvia, columbine & digitalis seedlings, clarkia, cerinthe, digitalis, perennial poppies, nasturtium, I could go on and on.

Supposed to get to 96 degrees today, rising 5 degrees per hour from the current 85 at 10 a.m. Heat index today 105 to 110. We got 1/10th inch of rain a few days ago, but none before since I don't remember. I've been out watering for over 2 hours, just cooling off now for a few minutes in the ac, then I'll go back out and finish watering. Guess this is going to last till fall.
