Not sure about the best place to order bare root strawberries. I just buy mine from Baker's nursery and transplant them. Last year, I had some success with the Sequoia variety; they can actually survive the summer as long as you provide shade cloth for the afternoon sun. Since I plant them in the ground, the only issue I have is with crickets that like to eat the berries(usually at night) once it warms up. As long as you can keep the crickets at bay, then you should do pretty well. IMO, they're not the fussiest of plants (and don't need a whole lot of water).
