starting from seed?

I've tried to start begonias from my own seed, with zero success, although I've tried many different methods.

I keep this pretty sterile, and I have tried surface sowing fresh seed on a variety of mediums, even on terra cotta, with clear covers to allow for light.

Has anyone here personally had success with this? The seed I'm working with right now is skaugam, which I find to be a nice container plant.

Thanks!
