question re: pomegranate plants

hey all!

I'm new here but I had a question!

I recently germinated some pomegranate seeds this summer before leaving for college, and coming back last week, I noticed it was leafing well (they're yellow now, but thats either because they need to be moved to a bigger pot/ground or it's winter, not sure).

I also noticed that there was a small fruit, actually growing. It's a nice red, a little bigger than a quarter in diameter and hard.

Is it normal for it to fruit that early? and I'm sure that it won't be a uhh.. 'mature' fruit? meaning I won't be able to eat it if it grows completely?

it's most likely just going dormant for the winter. I actually just purchased a 'Wonderful' Pomegranate tree this morning and all of its leaves have fallen off. It's completely normal :)

well thats the thing!
I was under the assumption that pomegranates wouldn't fruit for like 2-3 years after planting... it's been roughly 6months from germination so far o.0

Congrats on the plant, and the precocious fruit. That's definitely very, very young for a seedling to produce fruit, so you're right on that front. Good luck and do keep us posted! You may end up with something really interesting there.
