If you got them dug up before the ground froze, I am betting that everything is fine and in the spring you will have the same miraculous reincarnation. In most places, where they winter over in the ground, all of the above ground growth dies. Think spring.

I agree with Bill. Mine also look very sad sitting in the garage in near freezing temperatures up here in Canada.As Bill says come Spring, you would never know that they had spent the last 6 months looking as bad as they did.

Why not just take some cuttings from them??? Then no worries..
If you don't wish to do this,then maybe just trim them down a bit..

We've had unusually cold winters the past two years and mine died completely above the soil (container grown).
In April or May you start seeing new growth coming up.

I agree with Bill and rosco. I never manage to get mine stored until after they've been hit with a few frosts. By then the softer stems and foliage are mush and the bark is slipping off the older stems. I allow them to dry out in storage for a few weeks and then trim them back. I usually leave about 6-8" of stem regardless if it's alive or not. They recover and put out new growth when it warms up.

Brugs can remain in ground year round in zones where the growth is killed back to the soil (zones 7b +). They're usually fine as long as the soil doesn't freeze solid. The only issue might be poorly draining soil that remains cold and wet which can lead to root rot even if it doesn't freeze.
