We finished it exactly 2 months ago and I'm lovin' it. Excuse the stressed-out looking plants...they were pretty unhappy with the drought at the time.

C'mon Edna & Karyn....Edna, I had no idea you were even putting one up and Karyn, pictures in progress are great if yours isn't finished, so ya'll come on and post some of yours!!!

    Nice WF!

Yea Karyn and Edna - comonnnnnnnn - dish ladies!

    Let's see!

It's pretty much done. The supports for the hanging plants, benches, mister, exhaust fan and heater aren't in yet but should be by tomorrow. Here's what it looks like so far. I'll have to move Kyle's play set and trim a few branches from the Catalpa tree. The green stuff is astro-turf that we installed when Kyle was learning to walk. It kept him from getting splinters and it makes a great base to set the GH on. I'm glad we hadn't torn it up yet.

Love your yard WF..looks cozy and private!..I am jealous..I want a GH too.

A couple questions for your gals, how air tight are those?
Do they hold the heat? Are these anchored down to the decking? Can you tell I'm checking on replacing my one in the next coming year?? Karyn1, do you like it that close to the house? Will is get shade at some time of the day or are you planning on adding a shade cloth?

Both look great and idea for plant growing.

WOW karen!..That is a very nice Greenhouse!

This one is very air tight. Each panel has insulation around the pane and some strange type of a foil type tape over that. Since this is built onto the deck it's bolted down with L brackets along the peremeter. It's actually accessed through the house, the dining room. It's a lot different then the big GH at the farm. Since it's a fraction of the size of the other GH's we'll be able to afford to heat this one enough for even my most tender plants. I can't wait to get them out of the house! I'd love to get the benches that I want right off the bat but they will run almost as much as the damn GH! I was shocked at the cost of the benches and potting tables. The catalpa tree should provide a decent amount of shade but I'm sure I'll have to pop open all the vents and will probably have to use a shade cloth during the hottest part of the summer. If we have another catalpa worm infeststion I'll have to use the shade cloth spring thru fall as they completely defoliate the tree.

Wildflower, your yard and GH are beautiful!Looks like it should be made into a puzzle!LOL
Karyn, your GH is awesome! Can't wait to see it filled with plants.

Beautiful Karyn!!! It looks huge!! KHT, mine is real airtight...I'm going to have to start running a fan out there during the day. Traded a necklace and earrings for a real heater a few days ago!!, but I've been using a small Coleman heater and it was staying at 50 degrees in there even when it was in the 20's outside. It came with gaskets that we had to put all around the frames. That was a real chore and about kills your hands but defenatly worth it.

We've got ours raised up off the ground some. It came with some cheapo type anchors and there's no way I'd trust those. We've got 4 x 4's at each corner sunk into the ground, then 2 x 6's all around with the some really long screws everywhere holding the metal frame into those. It ain't goin' nowhere. Shelves and everything besides a heater basically came with the kit.

Wow nice GHs wildflower ank Karyn. Karyn that will be nice to access it right from the house you will be able to enjoy it like another room of the house. I was searching GW today and happened across some pics of your family's commercial greenhouses. You are so spoiled to be able to have room in those and have your own private GH, lol. Wildflower, that is very nice how your GH is incorporated into the garden with the path and everything.

Wonderful GHs you two! Karyn, can you get to your GH from outside as well? WF, I love the way you have your GH setup like that. I can see a goldfish in your pond!

Those are great greenhouses. I sure hope I get one in the next year or 2. I can't imagine where I'm going to put all my plants once they all get bigger. Next winter I will be needing to use the entire garage and guest bedroom, lol. Wildflower where do you live again, lol. I'm on my way to live in your yard, lol.

Thank you both for answering my questions, you both have great greenhouses and I know you will enjoy them!!

Looks great so far. You guys should look on the Florida forum at a thread called, 'potting bench'- now that is a beauty! I think I'm gonna copy it, it doesn't look too hard to make at all.

WF - sooooooooooo ya got that fantastic GREEN framed green house at COSTCO?

And. . .I rehabbed a junk room - when I coulda had THAT? (sarcastic grin)

It's very nice lady - and so is yours Karyn. Boy - real sunshine - no artifical lights like my room.

    What a wonderful option.

They're both lovely ladies. Congrats and both of your stuff looks like lots of goodies to come.

    Very nice ladies..I'm jealous :)
I need one so bad, cant wait to get one..I have been kicking myself since August because HD had one GH left on clearance from over $400 marked down to $80!! I wanted it SO bad, but I was with my mother and with all the plants we had there was no way it would fit into her lil car. Went back next day and it was gone. I should have just seen if I could have bought it right then, and had them hold it for me..live and learn. Someone got a great deal, just wasnt me. Hoping I can find that kinda deal again..yeah right!! But, I can hope...

Look at Kyle..poor kid..you know he's thinkin "What the heck is this crap? This is where I PLAY!!!!" LOL How old is he Karyn?

The one thing we didn't consider was what the GH would look like from the street. Very strange as the level of the deck that it's built on is level with the upper floor of the house. The GH is taller then that portion of the house and looks really weird from the street but the only other choice would have been to build it on a lower level and access it from the master bedroom. Actually that wouldn't have bothered me but we would have had to cut through the brick to gain access and that would have been cost prohibitive.

I ended up having to order a new heater. I was planning on using one of the extras from the farm but that's too powerful for this GH and would cook everything.I'm using an electric heater for this GH but we use propane for the big GH. I found a 19,000 BTU GH heater for $153 with free S&H online. The store had some nice stuff and good prices. I even ordered some benches. I might be able to put a few small space heaters in there until the new one arrives if I want to start moving plants but it will probably be easier to wait for the new heater and benches.

Kyle was 3 at the end of Oct. He's thinking that this is going to be a new playhouse. I don't think so! The deck is plenty big enough that he can find somewhere else to play. We'll move his playhouse to the upper level of the deck. I just have to make sure he doesn't throw stuff, bang on the panes or drive his cars into the GH.

lol Karyn..good luck with that! My youngest just turned 4 on 1-02. I know with her, she'd be fingerpainting the panes, lol. All her playhouses outside and all her lil vehicles have been painted by her, lol. The other day when it was almost 70 here she found some wet sidewalk chalk out in her play area and loved the fact that because it was wet it was like thick paint, so all her stuff got new chalk/paint jobs, lol. I don't mind, it washes right off in the rain, and if its safe and keeps her busy I'm all for it.

I agree, I think you should wait to move everything in till the benches are there, be so much easier. Wont have to move everything again.

At least your daughter confines her wall art to the outdoors. Kyle has made a point out of drawing on every wall in our house. It looks like a gang of little people have tagged every flat surface in our house. Punishment doesn't stop him either. The other kids pulled that crap once and never again, not Kyle. He goes right back to graffiti. We'd just had major renovations and the entire interior painted right before I found out that I was pregnant. I'm not repainting until I'm sure he won't lift a writing utensil to a wall. I don't care what it looks like in here. It's way too expensive to have the house painted.
    Karyn

lmao Karyn, I know how you feel. When my daughter 1st learned to write her name at 1 1/2 she was doing the same thing..lasted a good year, she even wrote the others kids names as she learned them. She got everything. I was the same way, and didnt want to repaint till i was sure she wasnt gonna do it anymore. Those Mr. Clean erasers are great though. They get it all right off without any hard scrubbing. I know you dont clean, lol..but if your maid doesnt know about em U should def mention it to her. They def saved me from having to paint again, which would have been really hard since I had a custom color made..I know I wouldnt have been able to get it twice, and mine too had just been painted..I did it when I was pregnant with her.
You may wanna try this idea, I was gonna do this in my hallway to my kitchen..Autumn's fav spot to draw on walls..get a long chalkboard, mount it on the wall there, and put molding around it to frame it..real low, right at his level. Next to it, mount a dry erase board. Then he can still "draw on the walls", but it can be his safe spot to do it. You can even hang a wall-mount basket right there for his supplies. ANd if you get a magnetic chalkboard or dry erase board he can hang paper on there with magnets to color with crayons on.
    Just an idea.

There's too much writing for the magic eraser and permanent markers bleed too deeply through the paint to be removed. Believe me we've tried and finally gave up. lol I've put an easel up on the wall and even got a roll of table paper from the Dr's office and taped that to the wall to draw on. That little #@$% drew around and under the paper!!!! He can be impossible but he's awfully cute. If he had been my first he would have been an only child. My other two were nothing like him, thank goodness!

Thanks for all the nice comments everybody. Ahm Karyn, sounds like Kyle's a little rebel!! I think you're smart to wait to repaint until he's over the graffitti syndrome. I know that must drive you crazy. It would me!

Dweeb, I saw pics of your green room on another post and I think it's perfect for your brugs. Definatly better than my greenhouse would be because it'd cost me a small fortune to heat it enough to keep brug cuttings at their happiest. The plants I have out in the greenhouse deal with just above freezing temps great. Brug cuttings would not be happy campers out there during winter...So why don't you post more pics of the green room?? And do you still have other construction going on there?

Anybody else here got greehouse or green-room pics to post??

    LOL!!!!!
I can already tell how special he is!!!! I'll take him in heart beat!!!
It just means "He Has a Strong Spirit".. That is a Very good thing!.

My youngest son was the same way. We moved when he was about 7 years old and I thought I had covered all his writing on everything long ago til we turned the dining room table upside down to remove the legs and there was Kevin written in great big chicken scratch letters. I left it there, lol. I wish I had remembered before now about that I sold that table last year and would have kept it had I remembered that was there. He is 22 now and still a "strong spririt"!

Oh I remember when my daughter was in preschool she went to a friends house to play. When she came home I asked her what she did, she told me she drew on the walls. I just about had a fit. She said her friends mom had said it was ok. So I asked the girls mom about it later (I was mortified that my daughter had been drawing on someone's walls) she said oh yeah it was ok, Then she told me calmly that afrer 4 kids (and this one was a late in life surprise) she just went with the flow. But she did have rules there were certian walls her daughter was allowed to draw on. I just couldnt imagine. And to this day (my daughter is now 17) drawing on her friends walls ranks up there with her favorite childhood memories.

ROTF - you guys are too funny!

Kyle sounds like he's going to be a CEO later in life. Always doing something different and shaking the place up!

I got one of those little newspapers from Harbor Freight today and they've got a real good deal advertised in case anybody's interested... Just found it on the net. The shelves would be extra and are way too pricy for what they are IMO (I like to make stuff like that cheap), but just for the basic greenhouse, a good deal.

Wildflower - that really does look like a nice deal. If someone has a more mild climate and just needs to capture the sun - that would be really nice.

I still want your green FRAMED one though - would fit right with my house.

Ya know - maybe down at the parents' place. Did they have a smaller version of yours WF? It wouldnt' be used in the dead of winter - but spring and fall they could use it.

Dweeb, my Daddy bought mine for me! My early Christmas present from him... He researches everything pretty well before he buys anything like that. I hadn't looked at them in forever so when he asked if I wanted it I was out frantically looking for a place in the yard to put one. Of course I found a spot immediatly and started moving plants. Here's the Costo greenhouses I'm finding. There is a 6 x 10 that's cheaper than mine was but doesn't have the green frame. Mmmm, not sure but looks like that one might not have the panels like mine does...You'd want the one's that hold the heat in. You might should check out the GW greenouse forum. I havn't been there in forever but those guys used to know the best deals and could give you all sorts of hints and tips about whatever type you're looking for.

The Walmart online has a decent looking greenhouse that was $199 a while back. I wanted it really bad for Christmas but I guess it didn't fit in my stocking, lol.

Thanks WF! I don't have a Costco very close by - but I think I know someone who lives near one - maybe they can do intel gathering for me next time they make a trip. (grin)

We decided to move plants into the GH even though the new heater and benches are still on order. We just put in some temporary stuff for now. The plants are loving it. In just 3 days they look 100% better. We are keeping the temp at about 60 at night and if the sun's out don't need the heater during the day at all. Even though it's below 40 outside it get's into the 80's with no supplemental heat. We've had to keep the exhaust fans going and vents open. I guess the shade cloth is going to be necessary very early in the season which I wasn't anticipating.

I was surprised at how much this GH will hold. I'm used to having 200 x 75' compared to 10 x 12' and figured that it wouldn't hold much of anything. I'm not moving any of my 25 gallon or larger containers in there but I shouldn't have a problem with smaller pots. I ordered stackable 96" benches and still need a potting table for the middle but I want to see what the benches look like first. I think I'm going to use a good bit of the GH for starting my tropical seeds and cuttings. I have to get the supports for all the hanging stuff to make the most of the space. If I don't hang plants or make hanging shelves there will be a lot of wasted growing space.
