Walmart Bulbs

Once again Walmart has bulbs from Eurobulbs. $6.96 each. I dug through the boxes, the bulbs are very nice size, no signs of rot or disease. I bought a bunch of these last year and they all came true to name. As a matter of fact they are doing very well out in the garden & some are sending up flower spikes.

Walmart in Texas City has/had: 'Exotic star', 'Charisma', 'Happiness', 'Pink Diamond', 'Stargazer', 'Gran Cru', 'Sumatra'. They also have 'Red Velvet' in one of those "kits" for $8.88, again, nice healthy bulbs.

Galveston Walmart had 'Aprhrodite', 'Exotic Star', 'Sumatra'

Lucky you. Our Walmart only has red lion and apple blossom.

We initially only had "Apple Blossom", "Red Lion", and one other boxed variety, too. Then last week, bagged "Pink Diamond" and "Grand Cru" showed up.

It is interesting that my WalMarts in the area, do not stock bulbs. I'd like a lot of those varieties you guys can get from them.

Soultan, have you spoken with the garden manager? (S)he may be able to request a transfer from another store. The prices are so good, it is worth asking for the bulbs.

We have two more in the local 'mart: "Happiness" and "Stargazer". I resisted - so far anyway.

Soultan, if you want some let me know. I scored Pink Star and Happiness. Both green and healthy looking with good roots for just $6.98 each. They also have 'Exotic star', 'Charisma', 'Stargazer', 'Gran Cru', and 'Sumatra'.

Oh, man, Cindee!! You're so lucky to have so many to choose from! I'd love to get a Charisma and a Sumatra and a Pink Star... but I'm afraid of the bulbs freezing during shipment! Plus, you're already buying for others, and I'd hate to ask you to add that much more... I should probably wait until next year... the weather is supposed to get really cold again by day after tomorrow...

The Walmart by us has the standard three... Minerva, Red Lion and Apple Blossom... although, there is a box of Red Lions at $2.97 a piece... for just the bulb... and they do have Vera and a plain white, both in kits, both priced way too high! Lowe's has the same thing... and Miejer's has the same as before... the standard three...

I think that if I don't get bulbs locally now, they'd freeze in transit... so I should "just say no" until next year! It's so hard to say "no", though!! :-)

    Cindee,
    You've got mail.

Jodi, there is a Heat pack available for shipping fish for instance. I will look into how much it is. If it is not too much, I might try one.

If Cindee can't find them let me know & I'll see what they still have here & ship them to ya.
    Tally HO!

    Aphrodite was going fast.

Aphrodite is amazing. One of my favorites. Right now I am contemplating Bestseller in a planting kit, that is going for $14.99. I don't know if I really want a whole kit. I just want a bulb... OSH offering.

My Aphrodite should bloom fairly soon... can't wait to see that one up close and personal!

Larry tells me that if plant materials are packed in styrofoam, sort of like the little coolers they ship dog vaccinations in, and shipping is by Priority Mail, everything should arrive in one piece, and not frozen... I don't know about heat packs... wouldn't they tend to make the bulbs too warm? I really have no idea about that, but it bears looking into, for sure.

Thanks for the offer, Beachplant... very nice of you! :-) I'm thinking that if Cindee can't get them, it's probably a sign that I should wait until next year! I'm collecting plants and bulbs so fast that I'm running out of space to keep them!

I don't like the fact that some stores only order the kits, so you have no choice but to pay the higher price for a bulb, a pot with no drainage that you can't use, and some dirt... it's not fair to real gardeners!

Real gardeners are scarce in the world. There are more of the accidental gardeners who are happy to buy everything in one package without taking the time, energy and brain work to look for all the necessary things.
The stores though should offer the same bulbs solo too. This is the issue with Bestseller in OSH right now. I left the kit there yesterday, but I know I will go back today and buy it anyway after doing the math and seeing that bulbs bought from the web would cost the same with shipping, and in this package, I can get a nice clear glass "vaze" too maybe to give away as a gift... Or use it as candle holder... Anything but plangint a bulb in it. :o)

They had some of those vase kits here, too... but they were $16.99 each. The varieties to choose from were the same common three that appear everywhere... too much money for what you get...

This is Bestseller. I am still contemplating. I want the bulb, and I could give away the glass container. It is modern and pretty.

Just got back from Wal-Mart, but don't worry I was good. Got an Aphrodite and a Sumatra for $6.96 a piece. Soultan, $14.99 seems a little high for the vase kits. I picked one up last year with a red peacock for $8.95 .

Nice going Prime. I love my Aphrodite. Very Fluffy. Now if I can just remember which one it is. Seems like every year, tags fade and I have to post pics to help me remember who is who!

I know, it seems too high for a kit, but it is a Bestseller. Where else could I get it? And the glass container is really interesting. Try to talk me into it, instead of reasoning against it. :o)

Oh, just buy the darn thing, Soultan... you know you want to! After all, it IS Bestseller! And who doesn't need another glass vase?! Right? Right.

If you don't buy it, you'll be kicking yourself later because you passed up the opportunity to own a Bestseller! And a beautiful new glass vase! LOL!

(There... are you talked into it yet?!)

Quit procrastinating Soultan...go buy the damn thing! lol

Did you buy it? We don't have that one here. Target has some in kits for $19.99!! I don't have one of them but not willing to pay that much for it. Johnson maybe? Didn't look exciting enough for me to fork out all that much.
    Tally Ho!

I haven't been out yet. Maybe I will be lucky and it will be gone by the time I get back there. Thank God I am busy.

Or just maybe... it might be on sale! Hehe!

Soultan, you know you will be kicking yourself in the pants if you don't buy it!

Speaking of Walmart bulbs... the pull of the $2.97 Red Lions was too much to resist... I went back and got 3 Red Lions, and I also came home with 2 White Dazzlers at the low price of just $4.96 each!

So, should I plant all 5 bulbs in one large container and have a huge red and white Christmas display? Or should I plant the colors separate? Taking votes... all together? or separate?

    Help me decide! :-)

I all ready emailed you kiddo. Plant them all in one pot for a big Christmas color splash! Yowzer! I like mixing them all up.

    Cindee,

Fortunately, I am not much of a self kicker when it comes to things that are out of order. My mild OCD is a really good way to keep myself on the right path (at least what I think is right.) On other aspects of life, I am pretty much a self kicker, and I tend to think that I only read the book titled "How to Make Yourself Unhappy" to laugh at all the things that I do in my life to make is miseralble. :o) You must admit, that all the happy people are so boring. They have nothing to talk about and there are no challenges in their lives...

I think I'm pretty happy most of the time, and I don't think I'm boring... I have lots to talk about, as you can plainly see! And I'd say that my life is full of challenges!

My life has so much about it that's out of order... Soultan, it would drive you crazy! :-)

I may have to pot the reds together and the white separately because I can't find a large enough pot to hold them all! However, this will give me the opportunity to use those Delft Blue pots I got... I'm now thinking of putting the Dazzlers in the Delft Blue pots, and putting the Red Lions together in this Mexican Pottery bowl planter I've got... the paint is peeling off it in the most shabby chic appealing way! It should hold all three bulbs quite comfortably! Yes... that's what I'll do...

Just a note to remind you all about the possibility of deseases that SOME cheap bulbs have. They could be nice and firm bulbs with healthy roots and no rot. They will bloom for you most of the time. Sometimes, after blooming and they start to leaf out, if ever they do, the hidden problems inside the bulb is exposed. Mite infestation and Virus can be seen on the leaves. Mites can be controlled by Orthenex. Virus is hopeless. Both of these can be spread to other healthy bulbs easily and can cause the plant's death. I do not mean to spoil your fun. I have been through this rough road and don't want to see my friends go that way. Just be very cautious, seperating them first from your healthy plants until they leaf out. Keep a keen eye.

Okay. Here is the kit. I bought it.

"You must admit, that all the happy people are so boring"

Soultan! I am a very happy person. I am sad you find me boring!!!!!!!!

    Nice kit Soultan!

Bestseller looks very much like Hercules and Lilac Wonder. I wonder if it is the same with another name. It would be funny.

I like the planter that came with the kit much better as a candle holder/display!

So, is Bestseller another example of different companies giving bulbs their own names? The picture on the kit does look rather like Hercules...

Right now, I am keeping the candle in it, then probably use it for smaller, shorter cut flowers, since I don't expect that it is glass that could take heat...

I don't know about the name controversy yet. I just put it up there for discussion. Based on that picture, it greatly resembles Hercules or Lilac Wonder. When it blooms and I take some pictures, we can judge.

    "I'M BORING" whaaaaaaaaaa

Okay. I meant: ABSOLUTELY happy people... You know, the ones who pretend that there is nothing bad in the world, and whatever reaches them, they just smile and fool themselves... You know: the ticking time bombs. :o) Is it better now, Cindee? :o)

    LOL!!!!

    LMAO...you all are so funny ! =)

I am also a ticking time bomb... I am just not ABSOLUTELY happy. :o)

None of us hippi lovers are boring, that's for sure!! Goofy, maybe... never boring!! LOL!

I prefer goofy to boring. Thanks for clearing that up guys.

I'm glad Cindee, you are not hurt anymore.
