Karmahappytoes project

I started my KHT project today. Soaked my seeds planted in good soil, watered, dated and marked well. Placed in full sun. Now I wait, till warmer weather to start phase two. Karma, thanks for offering the trials, it is educational and so much fun. Edna

Edna - I'm going to start mine tomorrow. I have some areas where I need to make a "special" space for her stuff.

I might be jumpin the gun here with these - but I'd like to at least get rolling. Got the seed starter soil and the flats.

Dweeb, From what I understood, we only do one seed now. One for each project. Correct me if I am wrong Karma. If not, I need to back to the drawing board...LOL

No - you're probably right - hang on - her seeds are right here in the drawer inside and dry.

Oh - have project A and B. My instructions don't tell me to do one now and one later. Says plant 1 and play with the rest.

I was gonna jump two flats. One for A and one for B. She wants pictures, too.

I don't have a suggestion for how to "play" with them so figured I'd follow her instructions for all of them.

What, like I'm gonna have a better idea than her instructuions for the rest? (sarcastic grin)

Annette, Mine don't say that. I have A and B. It says soak 1 seed to sow direct to over winter in rich soil & full sun, for project A & B. Plant remainder as you would like...uuuummmmm

Annette, Just thought of something funny. I bet Sassy wouldn't turn the two of us loose with her seeds..ROLMBFAO.
Sorry Sassy, it just popped into my head...

Edna - that's what mine says.

Soak one seed and plant direct in rich soil full sun to over winter. Play with the rest.

So I'll plant ALL of A using her instructions and B also.

I don't have a better idea to "play" with the balance. So I'll do A in one flat, and B in another flat - using her instructions.

LOL. . no. . .sassy is probably looking at us like "could screw up the color of the HEARSE in the one car funeral."

    LOL

My guess is - she wants at least ONE seed handled the same in all projects - from there - she can extrapolate her results with a certain level of accuracy.

    A control group of sorts.

But because of my novice and lack of expertise - I will just follow her instructions for both.

I don't have a better suggestion how to start my seeds. (grin)

Unless of course - you mean I'm supposed to sow direct in full sun - which means I have to wait. (grin)

Sigh - you can tell I'm really tired. . .LOL

Dweeb, You are so d*** funny. "screw up the color of the hearse in a one car funeral"..................love it. I'm the DA here. I'll plant the one like she wants, and just like you, I don't have a clue of another way, so, I'll do them all the same !!

Let me help out here, I wrote out several different ways to do this and don't have my journal from last year on my desk. What the deal is so everyone knows, the reason I asked for one to be started to over winter outside if at all possible is due to what was used and past seedpods that we saw a problem with germination. The Mother, Datura Missouri Marble was from a tissue culture as was the Father, Brugmansia Reverse Variegated. The first year we producted the Albino, that was again Mother, Datura Missouri Marble with Father, B. Shorty's variegated. We only placed one seed at the D. MM feet and we saw the Albino seed winter and product a plant. This is why the request to plant now. Last years pods we share, only 2 viable seeds made it as a plant of 12" before they were killed by someone that decided to spray to help out, no photos of this. I am looking in the disks for the photos of the seedlings and will put them on the website so you can see them, they were so cute. I have one photo of the first Albino Datmansia on the site now.

According to what I have learned tissue cultures can take more cold??

Well I planted mine in the ground when you sent it to me and said...Plant one in Ground now after soaking overnight. Actually I planted three seeds in the ground in a sunny location. Now, I'm just crossing my fingers and waiting to see what happens come this spring. I pray to the good Lord up above that the last couple of downpours we had didn't wash them away. If it did, they may show up growing close to the pond somewhere. (LOL)

I think the cold will probably do them some good but what the heck do I know. I'm new to all of these brugs and dat plants. I have grown a few daylilies, and other things from seeds however.

Should be fun to see just what we get. (grin) Thanks Karma for including me in this TRIAL Project.

I planted mine too and was worried when we have a warm spell that it would sprout then freeze but I haven't seen anything yet. Crossing my fingers that it will come up in the spring.

Ok - so - should I get out my pick ax and go try to find a spot under the snow to plant? (grin)

THAT'S not gonna be possible for me. Alright - I'll hold a seed until the ground UNfreezes - and put it right in the cold soil - direct sown - in the sun. And I'll jump the others here inside.

We're supposed to hit mid 50s in the next couple days - snow may disappear - we'll see if I can put a seed down then.

You girls are funny!!!! HA HA HA

    Good luck on your project!

t-dweeb, you could also plant one in a pot and put it in the garage so that it's sort of cold. I was hoping today to get half of ours outside but I'm afraid they will be all over KS if I do. January is usually when we get snow so I'm a bit behind.

Karma, I planted one each of A and B when I received them, on 11/13/07. Neither has germinated yet. I planted the rest of the seeds on 1/1/08 and have not seen germination yet.I have them covered on a heat mat and under lights.
    Hoping for some sprouts !!
