I was watering the plants this morning and noticed that Honeybee has a fused and sheath-less spike forming. I thought it was interesting enough to share with the group.

We had some hysterical threads...that was back in 2009!! I miss Larissa...she always had something funny to add and I miss Chaz too! He was a hoot! I went back and re-read the green boa thread...laughed all over again!

Maybe Honeybee had too many flowers for one sheath! I hope they all bloom out just fine.

I hope so too. The sheath that's attached to sheath-less flowers is developing normally and beginning to swell.

Hi Kristi,

I'll let you know shortly. I have her growing a bit cooler so she'll last a little longer, but she's ready to bloom any day now and she's such a little cutie. Since I posted the original picture, the very small bulb has put up a third scape...the poor little thing is gonna be exhausted. I plan on harvesting all the pollen from the flowers for future breeding, it might prove to be useful in mini breeding (something I really like!!) If anyone wants some pollen, let me know.

Most of my hippies are still in hibernation in the basement but I will be waking them up shortly. H. Honeybee has developed a nice plump bulb and looks like it may offset soon, I will keep an eye on it and when it offsets, I'll put one aside for you.

It's definitely more yellow and wonderfully small...I'm talking only 8 to 10 inches tall. I have tried to pollinate some other things with her pollen, but no takers. Since I know very little about her parentage and what ploidy (sp?) she is, it's gonna have to be hit or miss :-)))

Mine rotted....

what a drama.

Mine is growing slowly and no offsets but the bulb has grown in size. I just brought it for it's winter slumber and I put it in the basement to dry out. Hopefully it will start to offset soon...fingers crossed.

Ton2, I would guess that this isn't the most vigorous of hybrids. It may be some time before there are any offsets.
