another source for milk jugs

Here's another potential source for empty milk jugs. If you happen to live near a Hindu temple, you might ask the administrator if they would save the jugs for you. Milk is used daily in temple rituals and so there could be a steady supply of the jugs. Its worth an ask.

Starbucks and other coffee shops use a lot of milk too.

Day care centers also go through a lot of milk in the course of a week and there's usually one fairly close by.

Don't forget freecylce in your area. That should be able to fill you needs as well.

A friend of mine posted on a freecylce site and within 2 weeks had 300 gallon containers.

If you drink bottled water in gal. jugs, they make nice planters and are thinner than milk jugs and are easier to cut

Went to drop off something at my daughter's house today and noticed a lot of people had put their trash bins out, and saw some gal. jugs in recycle but didn't stop. After the holidays, I'm going to put some large black heavy duty trash bags in my car and when I go out running errands, I'm going to be slowing up and pulling up to the curb to check people's recycle bins out. While in the grocery store, I decided since I love chocolate milk, I'd buy gal. size, and also realized that Deer Park water comes in gal size jugs..usually we buy the small size to put on our nightstand at night, but I might have to resort to buying that gal size jub and filling up a metal coffee cup with water from the gal. jug with straw for hubby to have instead of the little bottles. A woman's got to do what she has to do! LOL! There's a method to my madness!

I used to get off work around midnight and I would go by the recycling center to dumpster dive for jugs-was always afraid I would get stuck and be found wrong side up in the morning!

Tell people what you are doing - lots of people are fascinated when they hear about it. When I talked about about wintersowing at work, a friend said she recycles gallon water jugs. She brought two huge plastic bags filled with gallon jugs the next day, and said she has plenty more. Since she loves to garden, I'll plant the seeds and share the wealth.

liza070831 is right about the gallon water jugs being easier to cut. They are transparent too.

I would walk by the recycling bin for the home next to where I work every day.......every week the neighbor would throw away 6-10 crushed gallon water jugs a week until I told her I would be happy to reuse (and recycle) them as long as she didn't crush them first.

Nice score!!! 25-40 a month!!! I can't drink that much!!!

A couple of years ago I was driving around the neighborhood and a lady had just put out at least 2 dozen gallon water jugs all tied together with string! I put them right in my trunk, didn't even have to wash them out! What a good year that was...sigh...the memories!

These are great tips..thanks..will keep my eyes open. Especially during the holidays when there are a lot of parties going on..check those recycle bins often.
