Sounds weird ; can we see some Shots ?

My initial reaction is that I think it would look very odd. The only way it *might* work is if the "fireplace" is a gel fueled one and it is very short and wide (kind of like attached photo, but shorter). This would turn the fireplace into a "fire feature," as it would probably be relatively ineffective at heating the room. It would be just for looks.

I don't know if this would even be possible, and I still think it would probably look weird.



I played around on Illustrator. Hmmm... Like I said. Not even sure if you could get this installed in this manner.

If you could post a few pictures of the room from different angles we might be able to help you find an interesting place for the TV that you maybe hadn't thought of.

Bobbi P made a good point with showing what the rest of your room is like so we might be able to suggest another location for the TV. It's a bit strange to switch the TV and fireplace since you want the warm air to raise from the bottom.

Ok, finally all moved in and starting to unpack. Thought I'd tryout my new iPhone's panorama feature and give everyone an idea of how the living room looks. What you're looking at:

The left most wall is where the sofa will eventually live. We're getting a new sofa to replace the futon.
The TV is currently sitting in front of the fireplace since there is nowhere else to put it.

What the current plan is:
Our goal is to maximize the feeling of openness so we're going to empty out the central area (where the futon/sofa in front of the fireplace is now). This is partially to make the space feel bigger but also so we can play kincect :) We're thinking of putting a new sectional sofa along the left wall, get an omnimount Play or something similar to mount the TV above the fireplace and have it point towards the left wall/sofa area. The omnimount is adjustable so I think it can be moved to face the left wall or the area in front of the fireplace. The area where the futon current lives will be empty with just a rug and maybe one or two upholstered chairs. The desk near the center of the photo will probably be replaced with a simple desk or table that is less deep (there's about a foot or so of space behind the screens there for no good reason -- the desk is nice, but just too big for the space). The xbox and tivo (sitting on shelves attached to the desk to the right of the tv) are a wild card. We probably will have to put them sowhere to the left of the fireplace, but we're not entirely sure where since we don't want to block the big window or door.

Alternate plan:
Put the TV in the mirrored area above the bar (there's a sink there too--you can't see it since it's covered wit stuff). My wife plans for this to be her "tea station" where she will store and prepare her collection of teas so I'm thinking that's not going to work, but it's the backup plan for now.
